One of my greatest fitness achievements is going from 90th place in the Ms. Galaxy competition in 1996 to becoming Ms. Galaxy in 1997. (Anything is possible). I also have been able to continue to compete for all these years in fitness routines without having a gymnastics or dance background. I hope I can inspire others to go after their goals.
My goals for this year are to win the Fitness America pageant to be held November 18, 2000 in Hollywood, CA.

"And then there was one.
Stallone, Van Damme, Seagal: Most of the inarticulate, testosterone-laden action stars of the past are cinematically irrelevant now, replaced by smaller, sleeker models (Tom Cruise, "Charlie's Angels"). Arnold Schwarzenegger is the exception. He continues to lumber along, making high-tech action thrillers that, even if they do not do well domestically, still bring in the bucks around the world."

Dallas Observer: Tears of a Clone: 16 november
"What's nice about The 6th Day is that it's not ashamed of its blatant reassembly of familiar elements, mostly lifted from Verhoeven's Robocop and Total Recall, with a dash of Cronenberg and some Blue Thunder thrown in for spice.
Since the script is confident--barring the somewhat sluggish final showdown--it weaves its elements together to create an inventive movie that stands on its own. Think of it as The Matrix for adults."

The Hindu: Getting to be noticed: 18 november
"Whether the critics accept it or not, the three-time world champion in the super heavyweight category of yesteryear, Taranenko, clearly demonstrated what a committed coach can achieve even if the trainee comes from a rustic place like Amudalavalasa in Srikakulam of Andhra Pradesh and has to be trained in a murky set-up where favouritism and ignorance of plain truth reign supreme.
Malleswari's success is a tribute to Taranenko's uncanny judgement in spotting talent and nurturing it to achieve the objective of winning a medal at the highest level."

Washington Post: Beware Trainers' Medical Advice: 21 november
"Rx: Consult a Personal Trainer" [Bodyworks, Oct. 31] suggests that there is an emerging breed of well-educated exercise specialists who are qualified to help people with chronic medical conditions.
As a personal trainer who has now become a physical therapist, I would have to disagree with the identification of personal trainers for working with individuals with complex medical conditions. Although there are some personal trainers qualified to work with special populations, there are many more unqualified personal trainers espousing to be qualified."
The Sydney Morning Herald: The ring-in: 18 november
"An angry figure, with the looks of a Latin Brando, sidles into the back room of a knockabout city gym. "I wanna train with you," says the wounded soul. "I wanna be a boxer." "Sure," says the trainer without looking up from a game of dominoes. "It's a great workout." "No, for real," says the smouldering figure by the door. "I want to fight."
The twist in Karyn Kusama's first film, one of the successes of America's Sundance festival this year, is that the angry young man is an angry young woman. She is played with a brooding intensity by Michelle Rodriguez, who turned up late for an audition but won the part even though she'd never acted or boxed before."

Lean On Me is aimed at those who want to lose weight and is billed as the “Feel-Full-While-You-Burn-Calories Between-Meal Deal.” It contains psyllium, barley, fructose, green-tea extract, chromium picolinate and 5-HTP — common dietary supplements purported to promote satiety and perhaps increase the rate at which the body burns calories. Each serving has 45 calories."

The Village Voice: The Dangerous Son: 22 november
"For a lot of us, weight lifting was about having pride in your physical stature," says Jon Cota, who went to school with Barnes and me. "But he took it too far. He got hooked on the juice, and just started throwing weight around. He gained about a hundred pounds of muscle, and realized people started to respect and even fear him. That's what he wanted. That's what he lived for. But something happened to his mind. He became another person."

"He undergoes body wax treatments to remove all the hair on his upper body and arms, and he shaves his legs. He rides a stationary bike before going to work, where he lifts weights not only for strength but to keep his astonishingly sculptured body perfect.
He vacuums the bottom of his locker because he can't stand dirt. He showers before practice, applies deodorant, then showers again before going home. He never takes a vacation and rarely goes out. His lifestyle was opposite of anything Lewis had known. But it intrigued him."

"Hurts so good: chili peppers, carbonated drinks and nicotine all deliver painful sensations to the brain, said neurophysiologist Earl Carstens of the University of California, Davis. "Humans have to learn to like these irritants, because they are all activating pain pathways," said Carstens.
In fact, pain may be an important part of food flavor, alongside taste and smell, according to food scientist Michael O'Mahony, who jointly heads the research team with Carstens. Most cultures have foods with this effect, such as strong malt vinegar on fish and chips, pretzels crusted with salt, black pepper, chilies, mustard oil or horseradish."

Healthology: Things That Hurt When You Move: Tendonitis, Bursitis, and Other Joint Conditions: 1 juli 1999
"Soft tissue rheumatic syndromes affect the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bursa that surround a joint. These structures can become irritated, resulting in pain, swelling, warmth, and inflammation around the joint. Because the structures surround the joint, these symptoms can easily be mistaken for arthritis, but arthritis refers to direct irritation of the joint itself and not these structures. Nonetheless, soft tissue problems can co-exist with arthritis and can involve structures throughout the body."

I-A-R-T: The Case Against Explosive Weight Training:
"The intent of this paper is three-fold: (1) to elucidate the fact that ballistic weight training movements carry with them the highest injury potential of any resistance exercises performed in the weight room setting; (2) to dispute the erroneous notion that there exists a definitive physiological or biomechanical mechanism by which ballistic weight training movements result in a distinct and irrefutable advantage over controlled, high tension resistance exercises in producing and/or enhancing speed, power or athletic skill development; and (3) to offer safer, more efficient and more productive training alternatives."

Philosophy News Service: What a dopey opinion on doping in sport: 26 juni 2000
"The myth of the "natural" exists alongside the myths of monsters and machines, robots and automata. Sport does not express "natural" performance levels at all. There is nothing "natural" about elite sport, just as there is nothing wrong with drug-enhanced performance on the basis of any of the spurious criteria put forward by the IOC or the European Commission.
That does not mean that drug use in sport is desirable; rather that the current arguments against it just won't do."
